Beijing: Forbidden Palace

Here we are at the Forbidden Palace in Beijing. We are standing on the Prime Meridian (north south axis) where only the emperor was supposed to walk (or more likely, be carried). The walkways on either side are for the servants who carry the emperor in his chariot down the road and up the lateral steps to the palace. (see the movie, The Last Emporer) Posted by Picasa

Today is David's 30th Birthday

We are back from China. More pictures will be posted as the week goes on. For now, here is a sponge cake we bought and ate in Chongqing, China to celebrate David's 30th birthday. It is quite artistic; even the tigers are made of soft wipped cream. Posted by Picasa

Sunday we had a party for Chloe and Michael Argilan - family friends - and the Summers and J. Edwards family came over. Here we are listening to a storybook that I am translating for the kiddos called "Who pooed on my head?" Baby James is enjoying it. Posted by Picasa

Here's Porter after his haircut trying to look tough. He can't not smile. He sure has lots of teeth. Posted by Picasa

This morning was haircut day. Porter wanted his head shaved like all the other kids. Autumn wanted her head shaved too, but I just pretended to cut it and then tied it back instead. Posted by Picasa

Monday we went to D.C. to pick up my China VISA and stopped in at the National Air and Space Museum. The kids were good and very interested in all the planes and ships. They earned their stars. Posted by Picasa

After an early morning of paintball the moms and kids joined us for lunch at the farm. We looked at the animals and paddled around the pond with Darryl (a MD/PhD classmate) and Rowan shown here. Posted by Picasa

Today we dropped in on the Smithsonian Yemen display looking for the alter offered to Almaqah by the tribe of NHM. This tribe lived and still exists where the incense trail turns east accross the Arabian desert, the place where Ishmael was buried in the 6th century BCE. Posted by Picasa
